Red Light Therapy is a non-invasive treatment pod which emits red light that penetrates deep into the skin, where it is absorbed by cell mitochondria, microscopic organelles that create most of the energy for the cells. Lying down and resting in the Red Light Therapy Pod helps alleviate pain in the body, helps with skin issues, decreases inflammation and activates the lymphatic system, an important part of our immune system that helps carry waste out of the body. Studies have shown that Red Light therapy accelerate wound healing, improve recovery from ischemic injury in the heart and attenuate degeneration in an injured optic nerve. In this study it was also discovered that NIR-LED treatment prevents the development of oral mucositis in paediatric bone marrow transplant patients. Using Red light therapy improved wound healing in genetically diabetic mice by up-regulating genes important in the promotion of wound healing. More recent studies have provided evidence for the therapeutic benefit of NIR-LED treatment in the survival and functional recovery of the retina and optic nerve in vivo after acute injury by the mitochondrial toxin, formic acid generated in the course of methanol intoxication.
